Connections in the Workplace

Teach job-related social skills by exploring relevant on-the-job social situations in an illustrated short story format.

Research shows that many challenged learners lose employment because they lack essential workplace social skills. Although technically proficient, special education students often respond inappropriately within the work setting. Connections in the Workplace is a social skills reader designed to assist teens and young adults in resolving workplace dilemmas. Vibrant illustrations, tiered worksheets and enhanced graphics help readers easily relate to the likeable characters as they explore alternative solutions to resolving workplace conflicts.

Student Reader and Teacher's Guide:

The Student Reader includes 35 stories, featuring Maria, Alan, Jerome and Bianca as the primary protagonists. Each story features interactive dialogue, five compelling color illustrations, a personalized glossary and a student activity page. Topics covered include: Independent travel to work, making friends on the job, working with a job coach and manager, helping others at work, cell phone etiquette, becoming a trustworthy employee, helping coworkers and preparing for an evaluation.

The Teacher’s Guide provides five tiered activities per story that assess comprehension, vocabulary and the understanding of underlying social skills. The enclosed PDF on CD allows for easy printouts of activity pages and full-color stories.

Our award winning eReader Software is enables struggling readers and non-readers to follow highlighted text narrated by professional readers. An assessment and tracking system is included that allows teachers to printout student performance data to prepare for parent meetings.
